  • 2 and 1/3 cups (291g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar for icing
  • Pinch salt, to taste for icing

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter with dark brown sugar using a mixer until smooth. Add egg, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract; mix well.
  3. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just mixed. Fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Chill dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and bake for 12-13 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
  7. Allow cookies to cool before drizzling with maple icing made from melted butter, maple syrup, confectioners’ sugar, and salt.
