  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Prepare three 6-inch cake pans by buttering and flouring them.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, sour cream, and vanilla; set aside.
  4. Beat the butter and sugar together on medium speed until creamy. Gradually add in egg whites while mixing on low speed.
